Jack Pardee who was a star linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Redskins and a head coach for the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins and Houston Oilers has died of cancer at the age of 76.
Jack Pardee was an All-American at Texas A&M. He played for the great Bear Bryant and was one of the famous Junction Boys. He was a 2 time pro bowl player for the Los Angeles Rams 1957-70 before finishing his career with George Allen’s Washington Redskins 1971-73. He had played for Allen when Allen coached the Rams and when Allen took over as Redskins head coach he traded for a bunch of his old Rams. The Redskins were called the “Over The Hill Gang.”
Pardee while in was in Los Angeles missed the 1965 season while battling melanoma.
Upon retiring he got into coaching. He was the head coach of the Florida Blazers of the WFL in 1974, the Chicago Bears 1975-77, the Washington Redskins 1978-80 then he went to Houston where he was the head coach of the USFL Houston Gamblers 1984-85, the University of Houston 1987-89 and the Houston Oilers 1990-94. His NFL record as a head coach was 87-77 and he was 22-11-1 as a college head coach.
