Sir Roger Bannister who will always be remembered for breaking the 4 minute mile turns 84 today. May 6th, 1954 at Iffley Road Track in Oxford. Bannister ran the mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. His record would only last for 46 days by his rival John Landy. No one remembers Landy being the second to break 4 minutes. Bannister will always be remembered for being the first.
