On this day 40 years ago Associated Press photographer Sal Veder took a picture that would win the Pulitzer Prize. It is called “Burst of Joy.” It was taken at Travis Air Force Base in California and it came to symbolize the end of Americas involvement in the war in Vietnam. 20 POW’s were returning home from Vietnam. Veder’s picture captures Air Force Lt. Col Robert Stirm being reunited with his family.
Beautiful photo. Thanks much. k.
