Senator Eugene McCarthy Shocks POTUS Lyndon Johnson In New Hampshire Primary -This Day 1968

Anti-war candidate Eugene McCarthy of Wisconsin shocked POTUS Lyndon Johnson in the New Hampshire primary-on this day in 1968.  President Johnson won with 48% of the vote but McCarthy did shockingly well scoring 42% of the vote. On March 31st Johnson would shock the nation by announcing that he would not seek re-election. 1968 was a crazy year. America having a nervous breakdown. In the end it would be Nixon vs Humphrey with Nixon narrowly winning in November.
