On this day in 1975 the most famous film in history was shown on national televison in America for the first time. The film was the Zapruder film of the assassination of President Kennedy. It was shown to an American audience by Robert Groden and Dick Gregory. Since then I do not know how many times I’ve seen it. I know I can close my eyes and see it, I’ve seen it that many times.
Abraham Zapruder who captured the assassination on his camera would sell the rights to Life Magazine for $50,000. He gave the first 25K [about $187,000 in today’s money} to the widow of police officer J.D. Tippit who was murdered by Lee Oswald on that day.
Zapruder who died in 1970 was so distrubed by what he saw that he never owned or even used a camera again after the assassination.
