The Greatest Athlete To Wear #60 is Pro Football Hall of Famer for the Philadelphia Eagles Chuck Bednarik.
Notable #60’s- Tommy Nobis was one of the best linebackers of the late 60’s -early 70’s. It is too bad he had to play his career with the then awful Atlanta Falcons. He was a 5 time Pro Bowl player. Dick Stanfel only played 7 seasons but was a Pro Bowler 5 times in the 1950’s. He was a lineman for the Lions and Redskins.
Chuck Bednarik is the easy choice at #60. Bednarik was one of the last full time both way players and he was one tough guy. He was a center and linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1949-62. He was an 8 time Pro Bowl player. He made the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Since he retired he has been constantly talking about how players were better and tougher back when he played. He did lay down one of the most vicious hits ever. In a 1960 game Bednarik hit Frank Gifford so hard he knocked him out. Some thought Gifford was dead. As it was Gifford had to take a year off before making a comeback. Chuck Bednarik was a tough tough man. Chuck Bednarik is now 87. Maybe he is too tough to die.
