On this day in 1962 Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in an N.B.A. basketball game. A record that hasn’t been challenged in the past 51 years and probably never will be broken.
The game was played in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Wilt played for the Philadelphia Warriors, they were playing the New York Knicks that night. Wilt who was a notoriously bad free throw shooter that night had it going for him. He made 28 of his 32 free throws. He was 36 for 63 shooting field goals. His breakdown of scoring by quarters- 23-18-28 and 31 to finish with 100. Sadly, there is no video of his performance.
Not much defense was played that night, the final score was Philadelphia 169 New York 147.
I was a hostess/waitress at a restaurant when young and once seated him == at first I thought someone wearing stilts had come into the restaurant – he was so huge. I came up to his elbow and I’m not that short! k.
Wilt the Stilt had many magazine and newspaper stories written about him, back in the day. I remember he even did a full page ad for Volkswagen once.
