The Greatest Athlete To Wear #68 is future hockey Hall of Famer Jaromir Jagr.
No one else is even close. Notable #68’s- football offensive lineman Joe DeLamielleure, Will Shields, Russ Grimm, Gale Gillingham and Kevin Mawae. The great Steelers defensive end from the Steel Curtain of the 1970’s L.C. Greenwood also deserves mention.
Jaromir Jagr is the greatest athlete to wear #68. Jaromir Jagr is the top scoring European player in NHL history. He has in his career scored 665 goals and 988 assists in 18 seasons. His greatest years were with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he was a 2 time Stanley Cup champion. I always thought of Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr as the NHL’s version of Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippin- the great one-two punch. I am a Penguin fan, Jagr was a great talent and he was very productive but was always something of a childish jerk. When he left it was time for him to go. Jagr has won an MVP Award and led the league in scoring 5 times. He led the league with the worst mullet a number of times.

i used to not care all that much about jagr, but the more i read about him and got to know him, the more i have come around to liking him.
the reason he wore 68 was to honor Prague Spring that resisted the Soviet forces in 1968. His grandfather was jailed by the Soviets and died in prison that same year.
