The Greatest Athlete To Wear #71 is Alex Karras.
Not many notable #71’s- honorable mentions here to go George Conner a Hall of Fame linebacker for the Bears in the 1950’s. Tony Boselli was a great tackle for the Jags before injuries ended his career far too early. Ed Budde was a great offensive lineman for the great Chief teams in the 1960’s and 70’s. Walter Jones another outstanding tackle.
Alex Karras was an outstanding defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions for 12 seasons. His nickname was “The Mad Duck.” He was a 4 time All-Pro and a member of the All Decade Team for the NFL in the 1960’s. He gets bonus points of course for his acting role as Mongo in the funniest movie of all times “Blazing Saddles.”

He was also the greatest athlete to deck a horse 🙂
Good choice. He certainly was a character.
