The Greatest Athlete To Wear #83 was the great linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ted Hendricks. There have been some good #83’s but to me this was an easy choice. Ted Henricks was one of the greatest linebackers to ever play.
Some other notable #83’s- receivers Andre Reed, Mark Clayton, John Jefferson, Louis Lipps, Golden Richards, Willie Gault, George Sauer, Flipper Anderson, and J.J. Stokes. Reed is a borderline Hall of Famer, the others had their moments. Ben Davidson was a big and intimidating defensive end for the Oakland Raiders back in the 1960’s who wore #83 before Hendricks came along.
Ted Hendricks was the greatest to wear #83. They called him “The Mad Stock” he was 6 foot 7 22o. He was not only a great linebacker but one of the great special teams players ever. He was great at blocking field goals and extra points. He blocked 25 kicks during his career. Ted played from 1969 to 1983 with the Colts, Packers and Raiders. He was selected to 8 Pro Bowls. He had 60.5 sacks, 4 safeties and 26 interceptions in his career. He was named to the 75th NFL Anniversary Team. He played on 4 Super Bowl Championship teams.
