On this day in 1861 Jefferson Davis found out by telegram that he had been selected as president of the Confederate States of America. He would be inaugurated as the Confederate States President a week later on February 18th in Mongomery, Alabama which was briefly the first capital of the CSA. Davis would be the first and only Confederate president.
