The Greatest Athlete To Wear #86 {Buck Buchanan}

The greatest athlete to wear #86 is Buck Buchanan who was a Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Buchanan was a man ahead of his time. At 6’7″ 270 pounds he was a monster in the middle of the Chiefs line and he was a dominating player. The greatest lineman in Chiefs history.

Other notables- there is no one player that stands out above all at #86. Being a Steeler fan I was tempted to go with the recently retired Hines Ward who was an outstanding all around receiver for the Steelers. I went with Buckanan because he is a Hall of Famer and was a dominate player at his position. Some other football receivers worth mentioning who wore #86- Gary Collins from the 1960’s Cleveland Browns. Boyd Dowler from the great Green Bay Packers 1960’s teams. He was Bart Starr’s favourite target. Dante Lavelle played with Otto Graham and the great Browns teams of the 1940’s and 50’s. He is in the Hall of Fame. Stanley Morgan and Antonio Freeman were fine receivers.

Buck Buchanan was the first player selected in the AFL draft of 1963 out of Grambling. He played his entire career with the Chiefs. He was a 6 time All-Star with the Chiefs. He played 13 seasons and was a key player in the Chiefs Super Bowl season of 1970.
