African-American civil rights activist Rosa Parks was born 100 years ago today. It all started on December 1st,1955 in Montgomery, Alabama. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in the colored section of the bus when the white section had filled up. Parks act of defiance and the Montgomery Bus Boycott became important symbols of the American Civil Rights Movement. Rosa Parks died in 2005 at the age of 92. She became the first American who was not a government official to received the honor of lying in state at the United States Capitol rotunda. 5o,000 people viewed her casket there.
