On this day in 1789 George Washington was unanimously elected the first President of the United States by the U.S. Electoral College. Our greatest president was our first one. John Adams would be elected the first Vice President. John Adams outpaced 10 other candidates to be Vice Daddy, a job he would hate with a passion.
