Danny Heater Scores A Record 135 Points In A High School Basketball Game-This Day 1960

On this day in 1960 Danny Heater of Burnsville High School in West Virginia set a record that still stands- he scored 135 points in a single game. Heater was a 17 year old senion. His school Burnsville High School was playing Widen High School. Heater was encouraged before the game by his teammates to break the West Virginia high school record which was 75 points. He had 50 at halftime. Keep in mind this was a 32 minute game. In the second half he scored 85 to finish with 135. He was 53 for 70 shooting field goals and was 29 for 41 on free throws. He also had 32 rebounds and 7 assists. He would go to  University of Richmond on an academic scholarship and was never a starter on their basketball team. He is still living.
