Sir Alf Ramsey- Born This Day 1920- Managed England To World Cup Championship 1966

Sir Alf Ramsey who managed England to the Football World Cup Championship in 1966 was born on this day 1920. Ramsey was the manager of the English National Football team from 1963-74. Ramsey was known as a fair but firm manager. Very few players who played for him spoke ill of him. The 1966 World Cup is what he will be best remembered for. England beat Portugal and the leading scorer in the tournament Eusebio 2-1 and then beat West Germany in the final 4-2. Ramsey is the only English manager to win a World Cup. He died in April 1999 at the age of 79.
