The show featured among others Henry Gibson, Artie Johnson, Richard Dawson, Ruth Buzzi, Judy Carne, Goldie Hawn, Jo Anne Worley and Lily Tomlin. In its second and third years “Laugh-In” was the number 1 ranked television show but by its final year-year 6 it did not finish in the top 30. The most memorable moment in “Laugh-In” history may have been in the fall of 1968 when presidential candidate Richard Nixon appeared on the show and said “Sock it to me.” The Democratic candidate Hubert Humphrey declined an invitation to appear on the show. Nixon later would say that appearing on “Laugh-In” won the election for him and Humphrey said his decision not to appear on “Laugh-In” cost him the election.
