Steve Earle turns 58 today. Steve Earle is on my personal “Mt. Rushmore” of recording artists along with The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello. I have seen Steve Earle a couple dozen times, far more than anyone else. I totally disagree with Steve Earle politically. He is a REAL socialist. But I love Steve Earle’s music and I respect his views. I may not agree with him politically but he is a true believer and he’s consistant.

Steve Earle has released 13 studio albums in his career. Since he was sidelined in the early 1990’s with a terrible drug problem he has become a workaholic. He has written a couple books and is working on a couple more. He is pretty regular in his output of albums. He always seems to be touring. Steve’s son Justin Townes Earle is an up and coming artist. He’s released a few excellent albums in the past few years.

Steve Earle hasn’t released an album not worth owning. My favourite would be “Transcendental Blues” from 2001. My favourite Steve Earle song “Jerusalem.”
