On this day in 1998 Matt Drudge on his website “The Drudge Report” broke the story of the affair between President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. The affair between President Clinton and the 22-year-old White House intern Miss Lewinsky would eventually lead to the impeachment of President Clinton on perjury and obstruction of justice charges.

This whole mess and all the troubles Bill Clinton had due to this scandal could have been avoided if Clinton would have just come out and admitted the truth. It would have blown over. One of the defining moments of the Clinton presidency was his wagging his finger at everyone and saying “I never had sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.”
