Super Bowl VII- Miami 14 Washington 7- This Day 1973

On this day in 1973- in one of the most dreadfully dull Super Bowls- Miami defeated Washington by the score of 14-7. Even though the Dolphins were 16-0 and going for an undefeated season the Washington Redskins were favored to win. The game wasn’t really as close as the score would indicated. Miami led 14-0 at half time. The Redskins had a hard time generating much offense against the Miami “No Name Defense.” The only Washington score would come on one of the weirdest plays in Super Bowl history with 2:07 to go in the 4th quarter Miami kicker Garo Yepremian tried to throw a pass after a field goal attempt was botched, his ‘pass’ was intercepted by Redskins Mike Bass and returned 49 yards for the Redskins only touchdown. Jake Scott who had 2 interceptions for the Dolphins was the games MVP. All told the Redskins only had 228 yards of total offense. The Dolphins had completed the only undefeated season in NFL history -17 wins no losses.
