Sportscaster Dick Enberg turns 78 today. Dick Enberg is the ultimate professional. He has done it all-Major League Baseball, the National Football League, National Basketball Association, college football and college basketball, tennis, horse racing, boxing, golf and the olympics. He is consistantly excellent. I can’t recall any controversies and he’s been announcing sports on a network in the nearly 50 years I’ve been watching sports. I can never tell if he has a rooting interest in a game. I can’t think of anyone who is better. He is always knowlegable and enthusiastic. I can never remember listening to him and being ticked off by anything he said. He was a part of my second favourite broadcasting team ever-doing college basketball games with Al McGuire and Billy Packer back in the 1970’s. My first memory of Enberg is when he hosted the show Sports Challange.
my mom was a huge tennis fan – i always enjoyed sitting with her watching wimbledon announced by enberg and bud collins.
