J.R.R. Tolkien the author of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit ” was born on this day in 1892. As great as I think “The Lord of the Rings” movies are- and they are my favourite movies ever- the Tolkien books are better. “The Lord of the Rings” has over the years sold 300 million copies, “The Hobbit” 250 million copies sold. Those books remain as popular today as when they first appeared all those years ago.
J.R.R. Tolkien was in addition to being an author, a college professor, philogist and poet. He was known as Ronald by this family. He died in 1973 at the age of 81.
Have you seen The Hobbit yet? We always go to a movie on Christmas day. It was a toss up between Hobbit and Django Unchained. Tarantino won. FYI – loved it.
I need to see both of those movies.. been busy.. hopefully this weekend!!

Only just blogged about this
Reblogged this on Steve Emmett.
The book was serialized in audio form back in the late 1970s on public radio. The production was first rate. That was my introduction to his work.
Mrs. Postcard has that–I plan on listening to it sometime soon…I am re-reading the books right now.. kind of in a LOTR kick.
We were enriched by his existence. Thank you.

I reblogged your post , Tolkien is one of my favorite writers. My brother gave me the lord of the ring book when I was 18, I just love it .
Thank you.. and those books are awesome i don’t know how anyone couldn’t love them.
So cool to know this. I love the books – I didn’t actually like the movies that much, although I do like Vigo Mortensen _ I’m sure I don’t have his name right.
But thanks for your wonderful information. Sorry I haven’t been by much–I’ve been a bit sick. k.
I hope you are feeling better soon!
Thanks. k.
