Construction began on the Brooklyn Bridge on this day in 1870. The bridge wouldn’t be completed until 1883 and opened on May 24,1883. The bridge cost 15.5 million dollars to build and 27 people died during the construction of the bridge. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time it was built.
