Jeff Lynne turns 65 today. Jeff Lynne is best known as the mastermind behind Electric Light Orchestra which was big from the mid-1970s- to the mid 1980’s. Since then he is best known as a member of The Traveling Wilbury’s and as a record producer.
With Electric Light Orchestra he had 20 Top 40 hits in the United States, six of them reaching the Top 10. Their biggest hit was “Don’t Bring Me Down” which reached #4. Other hits included “Evil Woman” ,”Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”,”Telephone Line”, “Mr. Blue Sky”[my personal favourite} ELO [Lynne} was clearly influence by The Beatles “I Am The Walrus.” My favourite ELO albums were the mid-70’s “A New World Record” and “Out Of The Blue” which was a double album. ELO at their peak.
Jeff Lynne in the last 25 years has released solo albums but keeps busy producing other people’s albums. I think sometimes the albums he produces are a little ‘over produced’ that sound may have worked for ELO but it’s not for everyone.
