Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate Re-Opens- This Day 1989

File:Brandenburg gate 1980s.jpg

On this day in 1989 Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate re-opened after nearly 30 years. East and West Germany were no longer divided. 1989 was one of the most amazing years in the 20th century. I never thought I’d live to see the wall come down. Two and a half years before when President Ronaldus Magnus demanded that the wall come down, there were people who laughed and said that would never happen. But the walls came down!

“General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the
Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this
gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall”- Ronaldus Magnus

  1. I always wished my mom lived long enough to see that. My family has been trying to locate other family who got locked in East Germany since 1989 with no luck.
