Baseball Hall Of Famer Al Kaline-78 Today

Mr.Tiger Al Kaline turns 78 years old today. Al Kaline was one of the most underrated players in his era. He played for the Tigers and didn’t play on great teams until near the end of his career. Only won World Series when the Tigers won in 1968. Al Kaline played his entire 22 year career with the Detroit Tigers. He mainly played right field and was known for his strong throwing arm. He finished his career as a .297 lifetime hitter and had 3oo7 hits in his career. He had 399 career home runs and 1583 rbi’s. He made 18 All-Star games and won 10 Gold Glove Awards.He won a battling title at age 20 in 1955 the only time he would lead the league in any major catagory. He finished second that season in the MVP voting behind Yogi Berra. The Tigers retired his #6. He was voted into the Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible in 1980.

Al Kaline was a very consistant player. He had no monster years. He had his best  years at a very young age. He was one of the most popular players in Tiger and Detroit sports history. After he retired he went into the broadcast booth for the Tigers.
