John D. Rockefeller Jr. Offers Six Block Area In Manhattan To The United Nations

On this day in 1946 John D. Rockefeller Jr, offered the United Nations a six block area of land in Manhattan in New York City for the world headquarters of the United Nations. The next day the United Nations accepted. The complex was built in the Turtle Bay area of Manhattan along the East River. Construction began in 1947 and was completed in October 1952.
