David Gates who was the lead singer for the pop group Bread in the 1970’s turns 72 today. Bread was soft rock music. They had 12 hits reach the Top 40 on the American Billboard charts. Their first hit “Make It With You’ reached #1. They had 6 Top 10 hits- “It Don’t Matter To Me”, “Baby I’m A Want You” “If”, “Everything I Own”, “Lost Without Your Love” in addition “Make It With You.” Bread released six albums from 1969 to 1976. Gates then embarked on a solo career, his biggest solo hit being “The Goodbye Girl” in 1978. If you have a Bread’s greatest hits album you have all the Bread you would ever need. Pleasant but not essential if you are in the mood for easy listening.
