On this day in 1972 Apollo 17 landed on the moon. This was the eleventh and final Apollo mission and the sixth Apollo mission to land humans on the moon. The astronauts were Commander Eugene Cernan [who is the last human to walk on the moon} Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmidt and Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans. Cernan and Schmidt stayed on the moon for three days. 40 years later no one has been back. In the past 40 years we’ve gone backwards as far as space exploration.
