On this day in 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt became the first U.S. President to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He won the prize for brokering a peace between Russia and Japan. The Treaty of Portsmouth settled the Russo-Japanese War. TR was the first American to win a Nobel Prize of any kind.
