On this day in 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. A day that will live in infamy. Biggest mistake Japan ever made.

Sad, sad day.
Yamamoto knew it as well. Just read the book ‘the Admirals’ about Leahy, King, Halsey, and Nimitz. good read. this showed battleships were no longer the primary force in sea power – had the carriers been at pearl completely different story.
Hans – i guess i can look on amazon or something, but to your knowledge have you seen a biography on chuichi nagumo? i did not know if you knew of anything offhand. there was a lot of criticism of his failure to launch a third attack to go after the fuel storage at pearl.
did search – lots of stuff on the web about nagumo, nothing that i see book wise.
It’s interesting the differing perspectives on this event. I was at the memorial once and witnessed a lively debate between some americans and canadians who were making the point that this was actually a good day, one of the best days, for millions of europeans who were saved by the americans entering the war. Interesting perspectives depending on which side of the water you are on.
Chilling.
Thanks for the posting. k.
