On this day in 1943 the “Big Three” met for the first time in Tehran, Iran. Franklin Roosevelt of the United States, Winston Churchill of Great Britain and Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union would and meet and discuss strategy for World War II. The main outcome of this meeting was the opening of a second front. One of the big mistakes FDR and Truman would make is- FDR thought he could charm Stalin. No one could charm Stalin, and later Truman thought Stalin could be reasoned with and trusted. Not a chance of that happening. They would meet again shortly after Tehran at Cairo, then at Yalta. Truman would replace FDR at Potsdam.
The Tehran Conference would last from November 28th to December 1st.
Absolutely love this photo. The character of each person is portrayed so well.
