On this day in 1942 a fire in the Cocoanut Grove nightclub in Boston killed 492 people. This was the deadliest nightclub fire in American history. It was the second deadliest fire in American history. The deadliest fire was the Iroquois Theater fire in Chicago, 1903 which killed 602.
