Forty-nine years ago today President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. A tragic event whether you were a supporter of the presidents or not. I think this was a watershed event. Things started to roll downhill after this in America. We lost something that day in Dallas. A president gunned down on an American street. Things kind of got out of hand after that in my opinion. LBJ and his lies, Vietnam, our cities going up in flames, the assassinations of MLK and RFK. Watergate. Bad ugliness. The 60’s started November 22,1963 and ended August 9th,1974 when Tricky Dicky resigned. I don’t know if we’ve ever recovered.
I am by no means an expert on the JFK assassination. I have from the time I was around ten been obsessed with it. I’ve read dozens of books on the subject, watched countless documentaries on television, I’ve been to Dealey Plaza in Dallas three times over the years. Again, not an expert more of an assassination buff I guess. For a long time I thought that the assassination was a conspiracy but about twenty years or so ago my thinking changed. I am not 100% certain, I’d say 99% convinced that that twisted little geek Lee Oswald acted alone, not involved in any conspiracy. There is always going to be doubts. This is a case that will never be solved to everyones satisfaction.
It’s hard to believe it’s been that long ago. It still seems like recent history to me.
I can’t imagine what that weekend would have been like to experience. I was about to turn 3. All I remember is knowning something bad had happened. I remember my mom coming home from work early and being upset.
