Rock music legend Neil Young turns 67 today. Neil Young never stands still and he never repeats himself. Maybe that is part of the reason why age 67 he remains relevant. No one could ever accuse Neil Young of repeating a formula over and over. His albums are all over the place. He has had albums that were brilliant some of his experiements just didn’t work that well. Overall he’s released 37 studio albums in his career and 8 live albums. He recently released his autobiography “Waging Heavy Peace” Neil has never been much of a singles artist, he’s had 3 Top 40 hits, “Heart of Gold” did reach #1 in 1972.
Neil Young has been an on again off again member of “Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young” having appeared on 3 of their 8 albums. He started off in the great Buffalo Springfield back in 1966.
Neil Young is also one of those elder statesman who is looked up to by the younger musicians.
My favourite Neil Young album is “Rust Never Sleeps” from 1979.
Neil Young has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, as a solo artist and as a member of Buffalo Springfield.
As you already know, I was at his concert tonight. When the entire stadium sang happy birthday to him I nearly lost my mind I was so happy. My husband made an interesting point – Youngs new music speaks from a lifetime of experience. Just as poignant and insightful, but coming from another perspective. And holy crap that man can play his guitar! If you get the chance watch his documentary – Trunk Show. Like a Hurricane goes on for an eternity – I put it on any time I want to have a little dance party.
Neil is one of the rare artists who in their older ages does connect with the younger people. I haven’t been to a Dylan show in years but he at least used to..I imagine he still does.. Neil is also someone who at 67..is still making relevant new music. He doesn’t have to tour as a ‘all i play is songs from 40 years ago” artist.. sounds like you loved the concert!! He was in Pittsburgh recently but I couldn’t go….
BB king is another one in that club.
