On this day in 1975 the SS Edmund Fitzgerald- a 829 foot- long freighter sank during a storm on Lake Superior. All 29 crew on board died.
A year later the SS Edmund Fitzgerald and its crew were immortalized in one of the great songs of all time -Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald”

This is one of those historical happenings where I remember just where I was, what I was doing. It was haunting….
I don’t know why but I have no memory of it… I do remember when I first heard the song though which is odd..
