Maryland Comes Back From 31-0 To Beat Miami- This Day 1984

On this day in 1984 the University of Maryland came from being down 31-0 to beat the Miami Hurricanes by the final of 42-40. It was the largest comeback in college football history until it was broken by Michigan State in 2006. Down 31-0 in the second half Maryland pulled their starting quarterback Stan Gelbaugh and replaced him with Frank Reich. The changes sparked a great comeback. The odd thing is, Frank Reich would go to the NFL and become one of the great back up quarterbacks. In the 1993 playoff game between the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Oilers Reich would lead the Bills to the greatest comeback win in NFL history. The Bills down 35-3 would rally in the second half and beat the Oilers 41-38. I remember watching that game. When it got to 35-3 I was about to just turn the game off. Then the Bills scored and I decided to stick with the game. {Sorry that I had to make mention of that game Quinn}
