Jefferson Davis had been serving as provisional President of the Confederate States of America since February of 1861 but on this day he was elected to the office. The President of the Confederacy would be a 6 year term. He would begin serving that term on Inauguration Day February 22,1862. He would never serve the full 6 years since the war ended before that.
