On this day in 1995 Yitzhak Rabin the Prime Minister of Israel was assassinated after attending a peace rally in Tel Aviv. He was shot by a 27-year-old law student and radical right-wing extreme orthodox Jew, Yigal Amir who had opposed Rabin’s peace efforts with the Palestinians. Amir is currently serving life plus eight years in prison. Rabin was 73 years old at his death.
