Football Great Diego Maradona 52 Today

One of the greatest football players of all time, some say the greatest of them all- Argentina’s Diego Maradona turns 52  today.  Maradona was named the Player of the Century together with Pele at the end of the 20th century. Maradona was as noted for his off the field controversy as with his playing. He was suspended 15 months for testing positive for cocaine. He was sent home from the 1994 World Cup for testing positive for ephedrine but on the field there were none better.

The highlight of his career was the 1986 World Cup when he led Argentina over West Germany in the World Cup final. He won the Golden Ball as the tournaments best player. Along the way to the title was the quarterfinal match vs England when he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory. The first goal was the “Hand of God” goal, his second goal followed a 66 yard dribbled past 5ive England players. This goal was voted by FIFA as the “Goal of the Century”
