Cassius Clay FIghts His First Professional Bout- This Day 1960

On this day in 1960 Cassius Clay [to become Muhammad Ali in 1964} won his first professional fight against Tunney Hunsaker in 6 round decision. The fight was in Clay’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The 30 year old Hunsaker was the police chief of Fayetteville, Kentucky. In his autobiography Ali said that Hunsaker dealt him one of the hardest blows he took in his career. Hunsaker would end his career with a record of 17 wins and 15 losses. Clay coming off his gold medal in the 1960 Rome Olympics would be heard from again.
