On this day in 1886 President Grover Cleveland dedicated The Statue Of Liberty. The completion of the statue was  marked by the first ticker-tape parade in New York City. The Statue is 151 feet and 1 inch in height and  305 feet and 1 inch from ground to torch. It rests on Liberty Island in New York Harbor.

The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic Bartholdi and was a gift to the United States from the people of France. The statue is an icon of freedom and of the United States. It is a welcoming  signal to immigrants arriving from abroad.
