“A Time For Choosing” Ronald Reagan’s Speech For Barry Goldwater-This Day 1964

On this day in 1964 actor Ronald Reagan gave a speech on television called “A Time For Choosing” on behalf of Republican Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. The speech launched the career of Ronaldus Magnus, he would in 1966 be elected Governor of California and in 1980 be elected President of the United States. After watching this speech many Republican’s wished they could dump Goldwater and go with the Gipper as their candidate against POTUS Lyndon Baines Johnson.

  1. So interesting. I must confess to not being a huge Reagan fan – he always seemed like such an actor to me – but he obviously was very good at speaking. I think Goldwater has been kind of maligned – again, not his particular fan but I do think he had a lot of integrity. k.
