On this day in 42 B.C.  Brutus who had a leading role in the assassination of Julius Caesar two years earlier killed himself. His army had lost the Battle of Philippi and knew he was going to be captured so he decided to kill himself. Brutus was cremated and his ashes were sent to his mother.
