Baseball Hall Of Famer Jimmie Foxx- Born This Day 1907

Baseball Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx was born on this day in 1907. Jimmy Foxx was the great power hitter of the 1930’s. When his career ended he was second only to Babe Ruth in career home runs with 535. He had 500 home runs by the age of 32 but then his career nosedived and he did little after that. He was not only a great power hitter but an all around great hitter. His career batting average was .325.

Jimmie Foxx had over 3o home runs in 12 consecutive seasons and had over 100 RBI’s in 13 consecutive seasons. He won 3 Most Valuable Player Awards. He is most known for his playing with the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox. He finished his career with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies.

Foxx’s post baseball life was not good. He went broke after a number of bad investments and would die at the age of 59 choking on a piece of food. His daughter had died the same way a year before.

Jimmie Foxx was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951.
