Former South Dakota Senator and the 1972 Democratic Presidential candidate George S. McGovern has died at the age of 90. McGovern was a liberal. I would probably with a lot of his political viewpoints but he was an honorable man who you knew believed in what he said he believed in. He was the oldest living presidential nominee still living. Now Jimmy Carter is. My opinion of McGovern is a lot higher than my opinion of the former POTUS.
He was beaten like a rented mule in the 1972 Presidential election winning only Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. He was ousted from the U.S. Senate in 1980 but remained active for the rest of his life. A good man.
A great book that deals a lot with the McGovern for President campaign in 1972 is “Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail ’72” by Hunter S. Thompson.

Another piece of history gone…
Reflect upon the fact that many Americans voted for Richard Nixon – because he said the same things Romney says, today.
You get what you pay for.
They all say what you want to hear. One of McGovern’s big problems-how he handled the Eagleton affair…that ended any hopes he had.
What gets my gears turning is: How would today’s politics and media cover something like Eagleton’s electroshock treatment? It seems now that our politicians are so far out there that the media can spin it’s will to the mass populace. Of course, I guess that’s exactly what happened in ’72. Nothing’s changed.
