The United States Takes Possession Of Alaska- This Day 1867

On this day in 1867 the United States formally took possession of Alaska. The United States purchased Alaska from Russia for less than two cents an acre. I call that a bargain. Back then they called it Seward’s Folly. Alaska one of the two states I haven’t been to, the other Hawaii.

  1. It’s a bargain. But – i believe Alaska’s destiny is way happier within US, then it would have been had it stayed in USSR… Oh, my father was in Hawaii, he loved it, i think so would you – whereas Alaska, for what i know from those who were there… can be skipped (albeit the nature is awesome and yada-yada ;))

  2. I went to Nome back in the 1980s. I love the very rugged environment there as a visitor. I don’t think I’d want to stay too long though. Still it’s gorgeous and pristine. I hope you travel there soon.
