Alternative rock music icon Bob Mould turns 52 today. Mould along with Grant Hart and Greg Norton formed the mighty Husker Du in the 1980’s. Mould was a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist for the group. Mould and Hart generally split the workload with Mould getting a little more songs on the albums than Hart. Husker Du released six albums before breaking up in 1988. Two of my favourite 1980’s bands were from Minneapolis, Minnesota- Husker Du and The Replacements. I loved Nirvana but Husker Du and The Replacements were far superior to them. They sold only a fraction of the albums Nirvana sold though. Sometimes the trailblazers do just that trailblaze. The Ramones also come to mind as a group like that.
Since the Husker Du breakup, Mould has made many solo albums and in the 1990’s was the frontman for the group “Sugar” Bob Mould recently released a new album called “Silver Age” which is most excellent. Also his autobiography which came out last year “See A Little Light” is an great read. I suggest you buy as many Bob Mould/Husker Du albums as you can.
