Duke Ellington Records His First Big Hit “Mood Indigo” This Day 1930

On this day in 1930 the immortal Duke Ellington recorded what would become his first big hit “Mood Indigo.”  The tune was originally written for a radio broadcast and was called “Dreamy Blues” The music was written by Duke Ellington and Barney Bigard, the lyrics were written by Irving Mills.
