Back when I was a little Hans Postcard, I would watch wrestling on television. My two favourite wrestlers were George “The Animal” Steele and Killer Kowalski. It must have been their nicknames that drew me towards them. Kowalski was a big man. He was 6’7″ 280 pounds. He was a villain wrestler and I always tended to root for the bad guys. Kowalski retired in 1977. He then opened up a wrestling school. In reading about him, he was back in the 1960’s a vegetarian, who did not drink milk or alcohol, he didn’t smoke and wouldn’t ride in cars with wrestlers who did smoke. Killer Kowalski died in 2008 at the age of 81.  Kowalski was from the Detroit area. A couple years ago Clint Eastwood’s character in “Gran Torino” was named “Walter Kowalski”
